Hunt Story

First afternoon of our gun opener I walked in with my bow and got settled into a lock-on stand at the back corner of a food plot that has several large pin oak trees on the edge. The buck came out of some bedding cover behind the stand and made his way to one of the oak trees at 6:50. He was just 30 yards away but it was too thick to get a shot. It took him about 8-10 minutes to finally feed his way into an opening that I could sneak an arrow through. The shot was 23 yards, and it got the heart and lungs, he crashed off and made it just about 100 yards and I heard him crash. I walked out and waited then went back in 2 hours later, and we found him in about 5 minutes with a pretty good blood trail. Several friends came and helped, and I had my 15-year-old son and 83-year-old father there on the recovery, as well.
