Hunt Story

0n Friday evening September 14th, I decided to hunt in a big red oak tree about 20 yards off a woodline in a field, since I knew the wind was good to hunt the stand. I had already hunted here opening evening seeing some does. Around 6:30 p.m. 3 does fed behind my stand along a fenceline that separates the field from the woods. I gave them a pass hoping a good buck would show up before dark. Around 7:10 p.m. I heard what sounded like a deer walking in the woods behind my stand. I stood up and turned around to see antlers sticking up through the brush about 10 yards behind the fenceline. I grabbed my crossbow and turned hoping the buck would jump the fence. He proceeded to stay behind the fence and slowly started walking down it. He stopped, and I knew he was a shooter, so I put the crosshairs of my scoped crossbow behind his shoulder at about 20 yards away. I hesitated momentarily because I noticed my shot would have to be between the barbed wire of the fence. But I was confident I could make the shot. At my release the buck kicked and ran crashing down into the woods. After just a few moments, all was silent so I thought I made a good kill shot. I called a friend to help me recover my buck, and he insisted I wait at least 1 hour to track my buck. My buddy showed up 1 hour later, and we located my buck about 80 yards away. I was so excited because this was the largest bow kill of mine
