Hunt Story
I was not going to be able to go hunting that afternoon (11/12/16) due to a previous family engagement. But at the last minute we decided we were not going to be able to attend. So I jumped in my hunting clothes and off to my stand I went. I got in my stand around 3:45 p.m. It was a bit windy. A spike came out around 4:20 p.m. and went right back in. Then four does came out 1-by-1 around 4:35 p.m and started to feed on the food plot. At 4:45 p.m. “The FREAK” stepped out (only his right front quarter was visible). I said to myself that’s him. I had been hunting him all season. We named him “The FREAK” in June when we first saw him riding around the property. He was in full velvet, and man did his horns look HUGE. I was intending to video the hunt but was scared he would get spooked because it was so windy. I had been videoing most of my hunts this season. He was 85 yards away from my stand, I put my crosshairs on his front shoulder and fired my 7mm rifle, and he hit the ground. I called my son and told him that I killed “The FREAK”!!! Then I called my wife and ask her to come and help me load him.
