Hunt Story
The area I was hunting was clear cut last year, making for lots of deer activity and easier visibility. I decided to continue hunting the area this year before vegetation growth limits visibility. I had a trail-camera picture of this deer in the area from a week or two prior. I had gotten in the stand well before daylight. As shooting light increased, at about 7:35 a.m. I looked to my right down in the draw and saw him walking through the cutover. I had about a 40- to 50-yard window to get on him, get him stopped, and take the shot. I attempted to mouth grunt a couple of times to stop him but to no avail. Finally with a much louder mouth grunt he stopped just before entering some thicker cover, and I was able to drop him at 135 yards away.
