Hunt Story
This deer was a deer I had plenty of history with. I let him pass at 3.5 years old as nice 8-pointer. He really blew up last season at 4.5 years old. As I struggled to get a shot with my bow, his name became "Smoke". He and I went round and round with Smoke coming out victorious. This year I found him at a pinch point on camera in a little different area. He came in daylight several mornings of this third week of bow season. I got excited and hung a climber right in the pocket he was feeding in. It took two hunts with this new climber location. On the hot September 28 morning at 7:15, he showed up with 2 does. It took several minutes to get him clear and broadside for a good shot at 26 yards. Wow! It all happened so fast, but "Smoke" was down. I took some amazing friends and a great dog named Buddy on about a 500-yard track. He bled out great, but was just an a tough ol' 5-year-old with a strong will to live. Needless to say, we found him in a couple hours. We had a great celebration with some awesome memories.
