Hunt Story
January 1st turned out to be the best hunt of the season for me. Cindy and I have been chasing a buck named Cheesy all season after several years of history with him and Cindy actually passing him last year. We had several hundred pictures of him all summer, and then he disappeared just as the season opened. It took several weeks to get him on camera again, and they were very sporadic, but we finally started getting him on camera in one area and snuck in one Friday and hung a stand. The first two sits in that set were pretty uneventful and were both evening sits, so I decided to go there this morning. Just after 8 this morning, I caught movement coming through the pines and nearly fell out of the stand when I saw who it was!! I wasn't sure about the shot because I saw a lot of shaft sticking out and was scared that I had gotten shoulder, so I waited about 3 hours before I trailed him, but it was unneeded. I took Savoy to the point of impact, she put her nose to the ground and a short 150 yards later we were standing over my best buck ever!!
