Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

The big bass wouldn’t bite — at least not at first. In early May, Jacob Ramey, 20, of Bainbridge, Ohio was visiting Georgia and staying at Big Canoe in Pickens County. “We were painting my aunt’s cabin,” said Jacob. “And we were fishing on and off all week.” On May 2, Jacob and his brother…

Classic Trip, Fine Bream Fishing On Ogeechee River

The Ogeechee River is high and muddy but dropping out fast. About the only condition that could be worse for catching its famed redbreast bream is if the river iced over. But then, even if it did, Carson Cross would likely still manage to come up with a mess of fish. His quiet confidence on…
