Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

A glow of orange danced off the pine trees as the campfire from the evening before was rekindled. Young hunters began to pile around the circle of heat at 4:30 a.m., way before the first turkey would ever gobble. “I’ve been up since 3 o’clock,” said Chris Kitchens, 13, of Eatonton. “I’m just so excited.”…

Tennessee River Big, Mean, Ugly Blue Catfish

The first fish bit quickly, hitting the severed bream head soon after it struck bottom. A brief, drag-squealing battle ensued, but the feisty flathead was soon subdued, finding itself no match for a reel loaded with 40-lb. mono. The beast emerged from the green deeps, savage and primitive looking with mud-colored skin shimmering in the sun. It was a nice catfish, but mere small fry…

Lake Oconee Buoy Line Linesides In April

“This is a pretty good fish,” said Lonnie, grinning and hanging on to a rod bowing sharply toward the water. Whatever was hooked up on the other end of the line surged again, and the rod tip arced even farther as line spooled off the reel. “I love it,” said Lonnie. “These hybrids will try to…
