Lake Worth

Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

River Fishing For Big Shoal Bass And Largemouth

During the four-month period of February to May 2008, Drew Gregory fished a handful of Georgia rivers several times. He caught dozens of bass, some spotted and largemouth, but mainly shoal bass. He wasn’t catching the little 1-pounders, he was hauling in the bigger river bass. During those river fishing trips this past spring, he caught…

Chumming & Drumming For Hartwell Linesides

If you look up the term “fishing addict” in the dictionary, you may notice a picture of Preston Harden in the margin. A deck full of rods strapped down revealed we’d be firing spinnerbaits and working an assortment of plastic lures as we…

Black Shoals High-Speed Buzzbait Bass

For some guys, it’s all about the fishing. Ryan Lamb of Lilburn, at 18, has bass fishing in his blood. In November, there are few places he’d rather be than ripping a buzzbait across the surface of Black Shoals Reservoir waiting for a 5-pounder to blow up on the clattering, splashing bait. At 18, Ryan…

Bull Reds On The Satilla Shoals

The name on the cell-phone dis- play brought a smile to my face. The caller was Glenn Durden, a die-hard outdoorsman and avid conservationist from Vidalia. I expected the usual you ‘should-have-been-there-yesterday’ report from his most recent trip, so I was a bit surprised when he started the conversation with an invitation. “Can you get…
