Lake Worth
Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

Carters Lake has been a not-so-well-kept secret lake for big spotted bass for years. In April, it is not hard to catch 4-lb. spots at Carters. These magnum spotted bass will be in shallow water from main-lake humps and points to blowdowns in the backs of creeks, and a variety of baits will work. Located…
As the big schools of Lake Oconee stripers and hybrids race to the dam this month in an effort to spawn, anglers will be waiting on them in boats with suspended bass minnows dangling below their fiberglass hulls. Oconee is a lake where water generation moves both ways, which means linesides don’t only go up…
Ten-year-old Tucker Waits, of Social Circle, put a 50.3-lb. Lake Oconee flathead catfish in the boat after a five-minute battle on rod-and-reel. Tucker was fishing with his dad, TJ, and Charlie Alexander, also from Social Circle, on Saturday, March 4 in the first Middle Georgia Catfish Anglers tournament of the year. “It was 8:30 a.m., and we were…
Early spring finds wading and water birds of all kinds moving back into the marshes and creeks of Georgia’s coastline. In its relatively short 100 miles—as the crow flies—of coastline, Georgia has more estuary and marshland and more actual shoreline than any other state on the Atlantic coast, sans Florida. That fact is the reason…
A 17-lb., 2-oz. largemouth has been caught and released by angler Gary Wasson in California’s Kaweah Lake. If the giant bucketmouth had been caught in Georgia waters, and been officially weighed, it would have ranked No. 7 on GON‘s Georgia’s Biggest Bass of All-Time list. The release of the giant bass was captured on video and can be…
