Lake Worth
Lake Worth, also known as Lake Chehaw, is a small reservoir at the confluence of the Flint River, Kinchafoonee Creek and Muckalee Creek. The concrete Flint River Dam was built in 1908 for hydroelectric generation and is owned by Georgia Power today. Lake Chehaw is very riverine and shallow with average depths of 17 feet. In winter, the lake is drawn down nearly 10 feet in anticipation of flooding spring rains. In the Flood of 1994, the lake overflowed its banks and the dam itself was underwater at one point.

The free permit will now expire one year from date of issuance, rather than the last day of February. Permit holders may also renew up to 60 days prior to the expiration of their current SIP permit. “Based…
Seasoned anglers know winter can offer great fishing opportunities for some of the most sought-after fish species. As the temperatures drop, many anglers, including veteran kayak angler Stephen Stubbs, follow spotted seatrout to fresher water, where the fish congregate in large schools. While this can make spotted seatrout an easy target, this species is also…
I thought about writing a piece on winterizing your boat, but that is ridiculous when living here in Georgia. Leave the winterizing process for our northerly neighbors. Part of the trade-off of 100-plus degree days of mid-summer is a climate with mild winters that provide premium fishing for many species. The idea for this article…
No, there is not a season on the baitfish that anglers catch in Georgia reservoirs with a cast net to go striper fishing. However, there is a season for commercial fishermen who go after saltwater shad that make a run up south Georgia rivers. Commercial fishermen can take to the water beginning at 12 a.m.…
For many outdoorsmen, this is just about when our annual depression sets in. With most of the hunting seasons winding down for the year, there’s really not much for us to get into. It’s cold, it’s nasty, and it rains every other day. I reckon we can dive into our honey-do lists before turkey season…
