Lake Jackson
Lake Jackson is one of the oldest reservoirs in the United States. Jackson has transitioned from a trophy largemouth bass lake to lots more spotted bass making up the bass catch. Crappie fishing is good on Jackson, and the lake is home to some huge catfish. The Lloyd Shoals Dam was built in 1910 by Central Georgia Power Company, and electricity was originally generated for the city of Macon. At 4,750 acres, Lake Jackson is small compared to other Georgia reservoirs.

Jackson: Level: 0.5 feet above 528. Temp: 52-53 degrees. Clarity: Heavy stain from end to end. The upper Tussahaw Creek above the bridge is a little clearer. Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen reports some bass being caught on main-lake rock and wood cover. Sunny weather will pull them up shallow on those banks with seawalls, natural rock and wood, so fish a medium-diving crankbait that will hit bottom 5 to 7 feet deep. Willie says patience is the key. Fish slowly and carefully in the cold, stained water. He also says spots seem to have overtaken the lake even worse, with very few of the 4- to 5-lb. largemouth being brought to the scales in local tournaments that he has seen in past years. Always keep a jig ’n pig ready to flip or pitch around wood cover, including docks. In the heavily stained water, stick with black and blue, but try browns…

Often, September can be the most frustrating month of the year for bass fishermen. The surface temperatures are as hot as they get, and the oxygen content is at the lowest levels of the year. Early in the month, the days are still hot and uncomfortable, and the bass are sluggish. But cooler nights are…
The cooler mornings we had in mid August, with temperatures only in the upper 60s, gave bass fishermen hope that September fishing would be better than normal. Early in the month, bass fishing can be tough. But even under tough conditions, the spotted bass at Lake Jackson will bite, and you can catch some good…
