Hunt Story
My husband set me up ladder stand in some hardwoods and we had good deer action on the camera. I hunted the stand a few times and it became evident the deer knew I was in the stand and would not be able pull my bow back. My husband decided that at lunch Friday we would hang a lock on in the same area. On Saturday afternoon the wind was right for my first sit in the stand. The nicer bucks had not shown up very often in the daylight but Saturday it happened. The 10-point arrived and walked into an open spot and I was able to make a shot. I noticed as he ran off I had hip him back a little and the arrow did not exit the deer. We decided to wait until the next morning to track the deer. I took my husband to the spot where he stood for a short time and we found some blood but the trail of blood was not very long and we could not locate where he might have gone. My son and his family came to help and suggested we contact Nick Skinner and his excellent dog Cash for assistance. It was amazing to watch Cash as he smelled those few spots of blood then tracked step by step that deer's path with no blood trail for 553 yards to my buck. My husband, son, daughter-in-law, grandbaby and friend all celebrated with Cash as he barked to celebrate the great work he and his owner had done. It is a hunt I will never forget as was my biggest buck with a bow and was blessed to have my family there with me to join in on the search and retrieval.
