Hunt Story

It was October 2nd and I had seen this deer pretty consistently on camera since August. I instantly named him Too Tall Tine for his tall brow tines. He was so beautiful in velvet. He disappeared one week before the opening of archery season. Lucky for me, he showed back up that Sunday night 15 minutes before last light. I was actually getting ready to uncrank my crossbow and took one last look out and saw him coming in. I got so excited, but I took another look with my binoculars to double check that it was him. He walked on in and I shot him at 24 yards. I thought I heard him crash off to my left, but I waited for a bit before getting down to look for blood. My husband and our neighbors came to help track with their English Cocker, Tucker. We followed the blood trail for about 100 yards and found him laid up in the young planted longleaf. I was so excited!
