Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report April 2017

GON Staff | March 29, 2017

Blue Ridge: Level: 14 feet below full pool. Temp: 49-53 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The water temp has dropped some due to the last cold front that came through a couple weeks ago. On sunny and warm days, the largemouth have been moving up in the pockets. We’ve been catching them on 4.5-inch Strike King Shadalicious swimbaits, 2.5-inch crankbaits and A-rigs. The spotted bass and smallmouth are starting to stage in spawning areas and flats. I’ve been targeting them with tube baits, jigs and craw baits. There are also some fish hanging out around the 15- to 20-foot range waiting to move up. I’m throwing drop shots on these bass. The Blue Ridge bite is only going to get better as the weather keeps changing, so keep working the spawning areas and flats this month. Also, the old folks always says when the dogwood trees bloom in the mountains, the largemouth will start spawning.”
