Three Georgia Gander Mountain Stores Closing

Gander Mountain, one of the nation’s largest chain of retail stores for hunting and fishing gear, is trimming some fat. The cutbacks include a process of shutting down stores in Augusta, Snellville and McDonough. In all, 32 stores will be closing as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

A news release from Gander Mountain states, “Like many retailers, Gander Mountain experienced challenging traffic patterns and shifts in consumer demand resulting from increased direct-to-customer sales by key vendors and accelerated growth of e-commerce. Despite aggressive actions to improve the efficiency of the company’s retail operations and support functions, the underlying financial impact from underperforming stores and unproductive, excess inventory hampered efforts to create a sustainable path forward.”

Guns.com reports that Gander Mountain operates 162 stores in 26 states and that Gander Mountain is in the process of selling their company.
