Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report – May 2021
GON Staff | April 29, 2021
Clarks Hill: Level: Slightly over full pool. Temp: Mid to upper 60s. Clarity: The water is mildly stained in a lot of areas and a little more clear on the lower end.
Bass: Tournament angler Jon Hair reports, “Fishing on the Hill is getting better as it’s taking at least 20 pounds to win tournaments. Fish are on shallow points chasing spawning herring. Catch them with a Super Fluke and a topwater walking bait. When the fish are down, throw a jig. The Clarks Hill Memorial Open Team Bass Tournament is coming up is May 8.”
Linesides: Guide Bradd Sasser, of William Sasser Fishing Charters, reports, “The striper and hybrid bite has been very strong right around daybreak pushed up shallow on points in 5 to 10 feet of water with live herring and cutbait both producing very well. After daybreak, they are staying in the same general vicinities but are just pushing out a little deeper around the 20-foot range, and their activity slows down. This pattern will hold true for a couple more weeks, and then they will begin to push deeper and also start moving onto humps in the 30-foot range.” Capt. Eddie Mason reports, “This month I spent some time getting poles and equipment ready for crappie fishing. We’re set up for about 15 longliners, and we’re using jigs. I’m back out there now on the hybrids and stripers. I’m using planer boards with live blueback herring and staying down on the lower end of the lake around Modoc and Hamilton Branch. I’ve been spending some time and getting quite a few bites on the main river channel points and humps.”
Crappie: Guide Bradd Sasser reports, “The crappie bite has been very good with the fish back holding to structure. They can be found 8 to 10 feet deep in 12 to 20 feet of water.”
