South Georgia WMA Giant Shows At Truck-Buck Tifton Scoring

This Hannahatchee WMA buck was a conversation starter at GON’s annual scoring event.

When a deer grossing in the upper 160s shows up at a GON Truck-Buck scoring event, drool forms on the mouths of most hunters standing nearby. However, when you tell them that the buck came from a Georgia WMA, jaws drop, and the antlers become an immediate conversation starter.

Will Matchett, of Hawthorne, Fla., spent time talking to hunters at GON’s Truck-Buck scoring event in Tifton on Feb. 25. With the set of heavy antlers in his hands that he collected from Hannahatchee WMA, he shared his hunt story with those standing around. Will’s buck grossed 167 3/8 inches and netted 155 6/8, giving him the honor of taking one of Georgia’s top WMA bucks ever.

Will has a great hunt story about his Thanksgiving weekend buck from Hannahatchee WMA. If you missed him at the scoring event, we invite you to read Will’s hunt story here.

Amazingly, Will didn’t win Week 11. He was beaten out by Don Spiller’s giant bow-kill from Houston County that netted 163 2/8 inches. Still, Will is leading the Runner-up Wildcard South and Public Land Wildcard South divisions, and will likely still go on to the Shoot-Out.
