Lake Seminole Fishing Reports – February 2021

GON Staff | January 29, 2021

Seminole: Level: Full pool. Temp: Mid 50s. Clarity: Good stain in the Flint and Chattahoochee; Spring Creek is clear.

Bass: Guide Paul Tyre, of Lake Seminole Fishing Adventures, reports, “The bass fishing on Seminole has been very productive this winter. We have been catching bass on a variety of lures from spinnerbaits and vibrating jigs to jerkbaits. A double willowleaf Strike King Premier Plus in chartreuse and white has produced very well. This bait works well at fast speeds to generate a reaction strike. The new Strike King Thunder Cricket bladed jig has been very productive this winter, and I expect it to continue to produce all the way into spring. This bait has incredible action to it and a built-in trailer keeper that works. Jerkbaits have also worked well this winter. The Strike King KVD jerkbait in the 200 series and the 300 series in any shad color has worked well. The Strike King KVD series is one of my favorite jerkbaits because its castability and action, the key is working at a fast erratic pace. As we enter into February, the Seminole bass will be in full prespawn mode. February is one of the best months of the year to catch the biggest bass Lake Seminole has to offer. The bass will be schooling up by size.”

Guide Aaron Crews reports, “Bass are preparing for the spawn, which could be from February until the end of April, depending on weather and water temperature. They should be taken in 5 to 7 feet of water on Rattlin’ Rogues in black and gold with an orange belly, red/black Rat-L-Traps, junebug Speed Worms Texas-rigged with 1/16- to 1/4-oz. weights with rattles, a No. 4 Colorado bladed spinnerbait with a white skirt and a Johnson Silver Minnow Spoon. As for fishing on the beds, fish a tube with an internal weight and a rattle in green pumpkin or a Texas-rigged lizard in junebug or green pumpkin. You can also rig a swimming worm on a 12-inch leader on staging fish. The full moon is Feb. 11, and new moon is Feb. 27. So if I was planning a trip, it would be three days before until three days after either moon phase. More fish bed on the new moon than the full. Crappie fishing is excellent this time of year on Hal-Fly jigs or minnows being trolled in 7 to 15 feet of water. Striper and hybrid are being taken on the same pattern as crappie. Chain pickerel are on spoons and spinnerbaits. Bream and other panfish are in 7 to 10 feet of water on wigglers. Catfish are in 5 to 15 feet of water on wigglers, worms and cutbait.”
