Clarks Hill Fishing Report May 2015

Clarks Hill: Level: 0.2 feet below full pool. Temp: 71-75 degrees. Clarity: Mostly clear.

Bass: Jon Hair with Greenfish Tackle reports, “The herring spawn is wide open. Fish shallow points and shoals with Zoom Super Flukes and walking topwater baits. When surface activity slows, throw a Carolina-rigged Trick Worm or a Greenfish Tackle Big Rubber Jig. This pattern should last until mid May, depending on how fast the water temperature warms.”

Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “The spring feeding frenzy has set in. The hybrids and stripers have been chasing the spawning herring onto shallow points and shoals early in the mornings and late in the evenings and are feeding aggressively. From mid morning to early afternoon, there is also a great bite, but the fish are moving out a little deeper and can be found in the mouths of creeks or pockets. With the fish running up shallow, the best method is to pull planer boards with herring early in the mornings and again right at sunset along the edges of rocky and sandy points. As the water warms up a little more and the herring spawn stops, expect the hybrids and stripers to begin grouping up on the sides of humps 35 to 45 feet deep and holding there waiting on schools of baitfish to come by. The best bite will be early morning right around sunrise, and the best method will be downlines with medium-sized herring. The majority of the fish are starting to move down river toward the lower quarter of the lake.”
