Hunt Story
I was hunting a box stand overlooking a pasture surrounded by woods. I had been watching five does feed in the pasture for about 20 minutes and looked away for a few minutes. When I looked back up for the does, they had moved off a hill and further into the pasture. I noticed another deer where the does had been previously and looked through the binoculars at the deer. At that point I realized it was a shooter buck. I did not have any idea how big he was, only that he was at least 8 points and a mature deer. I positioned myself to make the shot at approximately 290 yards with my 300 WSM. When I shot, the deer folded where it stood and never moved. I waited about 5 minutes, long enough for me to call my wife and let her know I had killed a really good buck and the went to get the deer. When I got to him, that is when I realized he was much larger than I expected him to be.
