Clarks Hill Fishing Report February 2015

Clarks Hill: Level: 3.6 feet low. Temp: 51 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: William Hooker said he’s been catching bass in the 20-foot depth range using Texas-rigged worms or Greenfish jigs. “I have heard of some big sacks being caught by some of the local bass gurus that are fishing the upper end of the lake,” William said. “I’ve also been catching all the white perch you care to clean in the 50- to 75-foot range using spoons from Academy Sports.”

Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “Water temperatures are dropping, but the bite for larger stripers has really heated up. The stripers and hybrids have moved to the backs of the creeks either out Georgia Little River or up the lake toward SC Little River and Soap Creek. Pulling planer boards with blueback herring and gizzard shad in the shallows in the backs of creeks around midday when it’s the warmest has really paid off with some nice catches of 5- to 8-lb. hybrids and 8- to 30-lb. stripers. You can still find some downline hybrids lingering around secondary points of creeks in 45 to 50 feet of water. They’re on the bottom mixed in with white perch. The best approach for these is to put a few downlines down with herring, and also jig right on the bottom with a spoon.”

Crappie: Guide William Sasser reports, “The crappie fishing has turned on early this year with nice slabs being caught trolling minnow-tipped jigs on the upper end of the lake around Baker Creek and Buffalo Creek, which is also a good sign that bank fishing for crappie will be kicking off real soon around Long Cane Creek.”
