Lake Seminole Fishing Report December 2014
GON Staff | November 25, 2014
Seminole: Level: 0.7 feet low. Temp. 57 degrees. The Spring Creek Landing is now open.
Bass: Guide Aaron Crews reports, “The team of Brad Reynolds and Scott Barefoot won the Big Bass Battle Tournament with a 7-lb. bass caught on a KVD jerkbait in sexy-ghost-shad color (KVD J200). This was good for an $11,000 pay day. The mornings are getting cooler now. Therefore, 10 1/2-inch worms in red flake are working for Brandon Taylor in the mornings. Shad-pattern frogs are working in the evenings. Bass will start to hit Silver Buddys, Little Georges, jigging spoons and jigs.” Tournament angler Matt Baty reports, “This is the time of year when most people are hunting, and there are very few people on the lake fishing for bass. With that said, it is also the time of year when the fish are biting the best. The bass are starting to get grouped up in schools all over the lake as they are getting ready to get into their prespawn mode. There are multiple ways that you can catch them right now. I will share a few. With all the grass on the lake dying back, it’s hard to beat a lipless crankbait or a suspended jerkbait. Use your Lowrance Down Scan to find submerged grass flats. A good place to start is out in front of Wingates. When you find the grass, stay on the edges of it, and use a Spro Aruku Shad on 50-lb. Sunline FX2 braid. For color choice this time of year, red works well, but shad patterns seem to work better. Use the Aruku Shad as a search bait until you find a school of fish. Then you can slow down with a Spro McStick 115 in clear/chartreuse. When fishing the jerkbait, you need to use 12-lb. Sunline FC Reaction fluorocarbon line, a medium-action rod and a super light reel such as a Lew’s Team Lite Reel. These reels only weigh 5.7 ounces and cast a mile. Another pattern that is about to be on fire is to fish deep standing timer in Spring Creek. A Texas-rigged 8-inch Big Bite Baits Finesse Worm in blue fleck or green pumpkin rigged on a 4/0 Gamakatsu hook and a 1/4-oz. Fish Catchin Fool Tungsten is a good technique in the standing timber. Also, a 1/2-oz. Buddha Baits Football Jig with a Big Bite Baits Reel Deal Craw as a trailer is also a good technique that catches giants. The Buddha Baits Football Jig features a oversize 6/0 hook that increases power and catch ratios tremendously.”
Linesides: Matt reports, “Stripers and hybrids are also starting to bite on the main lake and in the Chattahoochee River. Look for both to be ganged up on main-lake humps and at the mouth of Trails End on the Hooch. For stripers and hybrids, you need one bait, an A-rig. Use an A-rig with Big Bite Bait Cane Thumpers and 1/8-oz. jig heads. Use braid and a big rod, because you are liable to catch some monsters.”
Catfish/hybrids: Johnathan Lott had a good catch of catfish and hybrids on rooster liver fishing on the bottom in 15 feet of water.
Crappie: Oscar Bailly had a nice mess of crappie in 12 to 15 feet of water on tuffy minnows on the main lake. Jerry Isler fished with minnows for crappie at the 12- to 15-foot depth on the Chattahoochee River above Trails End. He has been catching limits of 2- to 2 1/2-lb. crappie fishing suspended mid-depth fish above tree tops in 20 to 25 feet of water.”
