Clarks Hill Fishing Reports – June 2020

Clarks Hill: Level: Full pool. Temp: Mid 70s. Clarity: Clear at the dam but the rivers are pretty stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Josh Rockefeller reports, “Fish are schooling well as the herring spawn is still going strong. Topwaters are working the best right now up shallow and on main-lake points. Staying off the point is key so the fish don’t sense the boat or see the shadow. A chrome Lucky Craft Gunfish 135 is an great bait for this time of year. Fish are also biting flukes and bottom baits on these same points, but the better bites are coming on topwater. Soon the fish will follow the herring back out deep to the humps, and big crankbaits and jigs will be the best way to catch them.”

Linesides: Guide Eddie Mason reports, “I’m fishing the lower end of the lake on main river channel points. We’re starting out in about 10 to 12 feet of water with downrods and blueblack herring. I like to go to the bottom and come up 3 clicks. After the sun comes up, we’re moving out to 20 to 25 feet of water and still using downrods and bluebacks. On windy days, we’re  having to double anchor, but as the winds have been letting up, we’re spotlocking some and bumping around sometimes.”
