Second Public Forum To Decide Fate Of Bibb County Hunters
Homeowners are pushing the Macon-Bibb Commission to pass an ordinance restricting discharge of rifles.

The Macon-Bibb Commission will hold a second meeting to allow the public to comment on a proposed ordinance that could limit hunting with rifles in Bibb County.
The second public forum is in the Commission Chambers this Monday (Jan. 27, 2020) at 6 p.m. at the Government Center, 700 Poplar Street in Macon.
Most Bibb County hunters don’t want to see any new ordinance that restricts firing a rifle, and more than 70 attended the first meeting last Monday. They say that there isn’t now and hasn’t ever been a safety issue with deer hunting in Bibb County, and that while safety keeps being brought up, it’s really a matter of a few people not wanting deer hunters in their area.
The entire situation seems to be an escalation of legal deer hunters being harassed by some homeowners, harassment that was documented by photos and video. That conflict was between hunters on a leased tract of undeveloped land in the Pinnacle Pointe subdivision on Lake Tobesofkee and some nearby residents.
The city of Macon and Bibb County consolidated to one government in 2014. It is currently illegal to discharge any firearm within the former city limits of Macon—not that any ordinance is stopping criminals from using guns in Macon, as pointed out last week during the first public forum on the firearms ordinance and evidenced by three Macon murders in the past week.

Instead of the residents trying to adopt a ordinance for a stray bullet that don’t exist why don’t they use there time and effort adopting a ordinance to stop the real bullets that are killing real people in Macon/Bibb Co. everyday. Stop punishing the law abiding citizen and deer hunter.
The hunters presented facts to the board and the land owners presented feelings. What if we had a new ordinance everytime someone had a feeling? How dumb would that be! And to the homeowner that has to see a deer stand when they pull into there neighborhood, that same deer stand you see is the same deer stand the non law abiding citizen see’s when they come into your neighborhood which might make them think twice before doing who knows what. And as far as the safe zone goes why dont you go buy a property that has the buffer and put your house right in the middle of it.
