Hunt Story

The morning was a clear, cold morning with temperatures in the upper 20s. I was hunting over a scrape line in hardwoods full of white oak acorns trees. The morning was slow and cold, until about 9:15. At 9:15, a doe came running in the hardwoods from the clearcut, with this buck trailing about 20 to 30 yards behind. They both stopped, I couldn't tell right away how big he was, stopping behind a tree. The doe started walking, and he started walking. I could tell right away as he cleared the trees, he was a shooter. After a few steps, instead of continuing to walk, the doe started running, and he started running after her. I knew I had to stop him, so I whistled loudly, and fortunately he stopped and gave me a shot. I shot, he ran about 50 yards, and piled up.
