Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report June 2013

Blue Ridge: Level: 7.0 feet above full pool. Temp: 70-75 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Crowley reports, “Blue Ridge has really recovered from the draw down and is looking great. Good baitfish numbers of shad and herring combined with high water, cool temps and low fishing pressure have really helped. We have been seeing good numbers of smallies, spotted bass, walleye, and I think the white bass are finally making a good comeback. Star Creek, Green Creek and the area around the dam have all been holding multiple species of fish. We had a day with 25 white bass caught and released, and that’s more white bass then we saw last year total. The smallmouth are schooled up on the main lake between Morganton Point and the marina. You will see them busting on the baitfish just at dawn. Long casts with light line will be your best shot at hooking these fish. The Smack Tackle Smack Jack in herring color was a real producer in the last few weeks.”

Walleye: Eric said, “The walleye are in the 30- to 40-foot range, and we have caught them on both live bait as well as on 3/4-oz. jigging spoons. Look for small rockpiles and run-off channels that are holding bait, and there will be walleye in the area.”
