Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – August 2019

Blue Ridge: Level: Full pool. Temp: 84-86 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The bite has been a little tough due to the lack of rain. We’ve been seeing August water temps in July. With us not having much rain and not having any cool nights, the baitfish have been scattered, which is causing the fish to be scattered. There has been some fish breaking in the mornings, but most of the bait they are hitting is around 2.5 inches long. I have caught a few topwater fish on a Whopper Plopper, but the better bait is a small Zoom Fluke Jr. The morning topwater bite is only lasting the first couple of hours in the mornings. After that, it’s time to start fishing deep. I will start out fishing main-lake points, rocky bluff banks and brush. I’m throwing a drop shot in 12 to 40 feet of water along with a small Z-Man Ned Rig and a shaky head. By noon, I will start working my way up the river, hitting banks and bends that the river hits. I will also throw a Texas-rigged green-pumpkin worm around brush and deep banks. August can be a tough month, so good luck.”
