Hunt Story
After weekends of rainy weather, the rain was finally gone, but the wind was strong. I had been checking my trail camera in between the weeks of rain, and it seemed most of the bucks had went nocturnal. However after several days of rain I went to my stand just before sunrise. After the sun was up I picked up my binoculars and started scanning the planted pines and the edge of the clear cut for any sign of deer movement. Some 300 yards away I saw the sun hitting some antlers in the brush. I looked down to get my rifle and the deer disappeared in the planted pines and brush. I spent the next 20 minutes or so searching the area before seeing the deer again feeding on the saplings some 250 yards away. I grabbed my 270 Savage and found him in the scope and pulled the trigger. And I do mean pulled because missed. At that moment the deer bolted along with two more bucks and four does, going in every direction. I tried to stay on the buck running across the planted pines until it disappeared in disappointment. I thought my hunt was over and started looking across the planted pines when I was surprised to see my buck standing 250 yards straight in front my stand standing broadside. I found him in my scope and made sure to squeeze the trigger this time. The deer dropped in his tracks and I was able to breathe again.
