Hunt Story
I could not plant my food plot this year because of back problems. I decided not to scout or walk anywhere around my deer stand. I put out 100 pounds of corn the Wednesday before opening day by 4-wheeler and never putting a foot on the ground. Saturday morning I got to my stand around 6:45 and tried to be quiet and still. About 8:04, I noticed movement around some bushes and then saw a very large size deer with a rack. I slowly eased up my 30-06 Remington 742 Woodsmaster and waited for a clear shot. In less than a minute, I got a broadside shot and let the 30-06 sound off. The buck only ran about 35 to 45 yards. I still did not know really how large this deer was until I found him laying in some brush. It was a wide 8-point buck and I knew he was over 200 pounds. I walked back to my 4-wheeler and when back my house for a slide in rack. I got on my phone and got a confirmation number and went back and got my buck. I took the buck to Ronnie's deer processing and got them to weigh him first thing. I have a picture of the scale showing 222 pounds! After winching up the deer to be weighed the winch stripped out and they had to use another one for skinning him! My lifetime best! It has been a big thing around here on Facebook. I got 5 large grocery bags of meat from this one deer!
