Clarks Hill Fishing Report – July 2018

Clarks Hill: Level: 1.9 feet low. Temp: 87-88 degrees. Clarity: For the most part the lake is extremely clear.

Linesides: Guide Bradd Sasser reports, “The fast and furious hybrid and striper bite has been starting around 6:30 and lasting until 8 or 8:30. After that, the bite doesn’t completely shut down, but it does slow up until about 6 in the evening when it picks back up again. The fish are moving down the lake along the edges of the channel anywhere from 25 to 45 feet deep. The fish will begin to move even deeper as the temps keep rising. For the most part, the fish are gathering near points and along ledges. These patterns will hold true for most of the summer as long as we have no drastic changes in weather patterns. The bite will also stay very good with the fish feeding aggressively throughout the summer.” Guide Eddie Mason reports, “Fishing has been good. We’re fishing the lower end of the lake going 30 to 40 feet deep with downrods. We’re fishing main river channel points and in ditches. They’ve only got one oxygen line running in Modoc right now. The water quality on the high side and the low side of the oxygen line has been good, so that’s where the fish have been. I feel like as the water warms up more, the water quality on the high side of the oxygen line will not be good. Within a week or two, the water quality from the oxygen line to the dam will be the best, so that’s where the fish should be. Getting bait has been a problem, so if you have plans of coming up here fishing, you should call ahead to the bait shops to check on bait availability or get a guide. On June 19, we got 30 good fish, including some nice-sized stripers.”

Crappie: Guide Bradd Sasser reports, “The crappie fishing has been very good with them moving into deeper brush anywhere from 20 to 25 feet deep.”
