Hunt Story

At 8:55 a.m., I was watching the bottom, and I saw a horn go across the top of the gallberry bushes behind the opening I was hunting. I kicked off the safety on my Marlin 30-30, and at 9:03 he stepped out into the clearing where the deer had normally crossed. I pulled up my rifle, put the crosshairs right behind his shoulder, and he started to walk off. At that moment I squeezed the trigger. He jumped up and pitched off through the gallberry bushes. He didn't go far before I heard the crash. I sat in my blind about 30 minutes, then went to go look for him. I followed the blood trail about 25-30 yards and there he lay.
