Hunt Story
My son and I left the house about 3:15 a.m., so that we could get to our camper in time to change into our hunting clothes and head to the woods. Of course by the time all that happened it was already hitting daybreak when we started our long walk to our stands. Once we reached our stands, I put some doe estrus out, and then I made sure my hunting buddy was all good to start his way up the tree in his stand. Being that my son is 13 and wanting to gain some independence, I let him use his climber in a tree that was close enough to mine so that we could share candy and drinks, or better yet, dad can share from the 20-pound pack that he carries for the both of us. Just after sunrise we had about five or six does come by and a few others that we couldn't tell what they were. Around 9:15 we heard something coming from a thick covered area at a good pace. My son says deer, and when I saw it I said he was a shooter, get your gun. As the buck was coming our way at about 75 yards, he started to veer off from our direction, so I grunted at him which made him stop, but of course behind some trees and neither one of us could see him. All of sudden he started walking again and I grunted once more in which he stopped. That was the ultimate mistake for that magnificent beast. I told my son that I had a shot and was going to take it. Oh yeah, my son had already bucked out, so it was hard for him to just sit there and be a spotter. I squeezed the trigger, and the next thing the buck was down. You would've of thought my son had shot the deer as excited as he was and me standing there in total disbelief that I had just shot a buck of a life time. This was definitely be a memory for life.
