Hunt Story
After a long season of passing up younger deer, it finally paid off. With the moon phase slowly changing and a break in the brutal wind, I was able to slip into a very productive spot in some longleaf pines. After sitting for several hours with no luck, I was growing more and more worried that I wouldn't have a chance at a good buck that evening. I made the decision to turn around and use my grunt call facing away from a bedding area in hopes that a big buck would become curious. As I turned around, I spotted a nice rack coming through the pines closing the distance on the grunt. Being a typical right hander, I knew the freehanded left-handed shot would be difficult, but I couldn't reposition at that time. The buck stepped out into a mowed road at 65 yards quartering to me, and I made a nice shot and was able to watch him crash 75 yards from the stand. All the hard work and patience for the season had paid off!
