Hunt Story
Me and my son Lanier had been hunting this several times and had seen this deer chasing does. The deer had really been running does hard, which made it hard for Lanier to get stopped long enough to shoot him. This afternoon we had pitched up in the box stand and had not seen a deer. Lanier had been playing games on my phone when I looked up and saw a deer coming out of the cutover. I quickly threw my binoculars up to see that it was the 8-point we had seen. I told Lanier to put the phone down, it was the 8-point. He quickly jumped in my lap and steadied the rifle. I stopped the deer several times, but Lanier couldn’t get steady enough to shoot him due to the distance. Finally the deer made it into the woods, and Lanier thought it was over. I grabbed my grunt call and threw two grunts at him followed by a snort wheeze. The deer came back out into the field at approximately 150 yards. I stopped him again. I told Lanier to shoot when he was steady. BOOM! “Deddy did I get em?” The deer dropped. Several high fives, fist bumps, and a big ole bear hug (by Deddy) we were standing over Lanier's buck with all grins!!! It was a great hunt.
