Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report December 2016

GON Staff | November 22, 2016

Clarks Hill: Level: 10 feet low. Temp: Mid 60s on some parts and low 60s on the upper end. Clarity: Clear.

Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “With the cool nights, the temperature will keep working its way down. This has been one of the best late fall and early winters for hybrid and stripers we have seen in quite a few years. Most of our fish are still coming on downlines 25 to 30 feet deep off of secondary points near the mouths of the creeks. There are some fish being caught on planer boards, and this should really kick off once it cools off a little more and the fish move shallower in the backs of creeks. There has been really good striper fishing going on in several different areas of the lake as the fish have started pushing out of the branches. Soap Creek and South Carolina Little River have been really good toward the upper end, and Mosley, Cherokee and Grays creeks have been productive out of Georgia Little River. We have seen a little bit of gull activity working bait, but there hasn’t been very much going on yet. We need the water to cool and the bait to push shallower before we see too much.”

Crappie: Guide William Sasser reports, “We have seen one of the better biting and earliest starting crappie seasons this year. Very nice slabs are being caught on the upper end trolling jigs around brushpiles and also anchoring on top of the brush and using small shiners.”

Catfish: Guide William Sasser reports, “For those who like to catch channels and flatheads, now is the time using cut bait off the sides of main channel points in the mid- to lower-lake areas. All in all this has been a great and fun start to the winter fishing.”
