Hunt Story
I HEARD GRUNTING BEHIND ME IN A HARDWOOD BOTTOM. A DOE CROSSED ONE OF THE GRASSY ROADS LYING BETWEEN THICK PLANTED PINES WITH BROOM STRAW AND BRIERS. THIS BIG 9-POINT BUCK WAS ABOUT 30 YARDS BEHIND THE DOE. WHEN THE DOE CROSSED THE ROAD, I GOT MY RIFLE READY AND WAS HOPING A BUCK WAS FOLLOWING HER AFTER HEARING THE GRUNTING IN THE HARDWOOD BOTTOM. HE STEPPED OUT AND PUT HIS NOSE TO THE GROUND. HE PROVIDED A PERFECT BROADSIDE SHOT AT 80 YARDS. DROPPED HIM IN HIS TRACKS. THIS WAS THE BIG BUCK I SAW THE AFTERNOON BEFORE RIGHT AT DARK AT ABOUT 250 YARDS. DID NOT TAKE A SHOT I FELT COMFORTABLE WITH THEN. THE WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING PAID OFF. THANK THE LORD FOR MY BIGGEST BUCK YET.
