Hunt Story

We headed out around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to hunt the day before Thanksgiving. I got to the stand with my grandson at 4 p.m. At around 15 minutes til 5 p.m. I told him to be still and quiet it was going to be a good evening. About 5 minutes til 5 p.m., he said he heard something on the hill, I told him it was probably birds. About 5 minutes later, he said, I hear it again. Right after that, he says “there’s a deer”, and it was coming from the direction he had been hearing things from, 140 yards from the stand. I look over, expecting him to get his gun up, and he is frozen. He was in such shock, he didn’t know what to do. I knew it was now or never. So I grabbed my gun, got the deer in the scope, and fired. I waited a few minutes and called my son. He said get down and see if you can see blood while it’s still daylight. So we did. We get to where I shot and only found white hair. I walked around a little more and still no blood. We returned to camp and I had a gentleman’s number by the name of Scott Lopez, who we called earlier this season, to help us track a deer. I called him up and he rode over with his son and two dogs. We returned to where I shot the deer and 15 minutes later... sweet victory! 300 yards from where I shot, the big buck way laying!
