Hunt Story

I was hunting where a clearcut met longleaf pines. I put out some doe estrous on a scent wick. I did one sequence of grunting. I looked down at just after 5, and he was standing in a scrape under a limb. I watched him work it, I couldn't get a clear shot. I thought he was going to go back across the ditch where I couldn't see him. He stepped into the road and I finally had a clear shot. I put it where neck and shoulder met and fired. He tore out running with one leg up. I said I know I didn't just cripple that deer. I got down and blood was sprayed everywhere. He didn't go 50 yards and piled up. I guess the angle of the shot didn't catch the spine. They usually don't run when hit there. I would like to think the same estrous and grunting brought him in but he never got downwind of the estrous. I think more than anything the old warrior was just checking on his lady friends lol
