Hunt Story
We have leased this property for eight years, and several bucks have been harvested in the eight years. I have seen several good bucks but passed on opportunities. I wanted my first buck to have a story, so, here goes; We arrived on Thursday evening late. I COULD not sleep, so, I made goody bags for the hunt, mine and my hunting buddy, hubby. I have his coffee ready, guns and backpacks. I'm saying are we ready yet. I'm pumped, had a good feeling, weather was amazing, and I was ready. Walk in early to my stand. I climb into an elevated platform wrapped with burlap. As daylight approaches, I can see my T-shaped lanes. To the right is pines and a road, to the left is pines going into a creek bottom, and in the middle is a food plot. A couple of different does show up in the food plot strolling and eating. Then 9:30 comes, and I can hear people talking and a car running to my right. I realize its echoing, I tell myself, and I settle back down. Then a large buck comes through the thicket and is staring at me in the lane. I'm like, what just happened. People talking, buck staring at me, and then he is gone. I missed the opportunity on that buck, but afterwards a couple of does came along I believe spooked from the noise. I text hubby to explain my mishap and the "oh my what have I done scenario," and he tells me to wait, he will come back. I scan the edges so hard I thought my eyeballs might fall out. Then I see movement, coming up from the bottom, "oh my," I think. I ready my scope and watch him. As he comes out of the pines, I put him down. Praying right afterward for the blessing that I received. Now, this wasn't the same buck. This was Hollow Point. We had him on trail cams through the spring and into fall. We had named him, watched him and he was the ONE that everyone was looking for. He was injured during his escapades, he has a scar on his neck and had a bad puncture on his shoulder. He has a hollowed-out tine and one looks like a corkscrew on the tip. I have hunted 12 years, and I knew I was holding out for a great reason... What an Amazing Beautiful Buck!
