Hunt Story
While hunt the November rifle hunt on Tuckahoe WMA, I recalled an area of the WMA where I got lost almost 20 years ago while hunting as a 13-year-old boy. I also remembered all the big buck and hog sign that I had found while trying to find my way back to the road. After looking around the area and jumping a nice buck out of a wind fall as well as a lot of feed and buck sign, I found a suitable tree to climb overlooking the best sign I had found and waited. After an array of wildlife from squirrels and raccoons to a few hogs had fed through, I looked up to see the buck crossing the hardwood bottom like he had no where to be and all day to get there. I raised my rifle and fired, striking the buck just behind the shoulder. The buck ran only 30 yards before expiring. After thanking God for the blessing and checking my bearings, I climbed down and retrieved a buck that was much larger than I could have ever imagined. As I sat there in the dark looking at my WMA buck and thanking God for his blessings, I came to a realization I was again a long ways from the truck alone and no help in sight just as it had been almost 20 years ago in the very same bottom.
