Hunt Story
We saw this buck for the first time last year. We have pictures of him with last year's Week 9 Truck-Buck winner from our property. I came down early this year hoping to catch him following does. On my second day in camp Oct 22., he gave me a front-on shot, but I decided to hold off because I was shaking too much! I spent the rest of the week agonizing over my decision to pass him earlier. Luckily 5 days later her gave me another opportunity, and this time I was ready. I had just gotten settled in for the afternoon hunt when a doe strolled across a clearcut in a hardwood bottom at around 80 yards. She did not seem pressured or alarmed, simple grazed on acorns as she crossed. I immediately got ready over my rifle. Sure enough 30 seconds later he came strolling behind her at 100 yards. I immediately knew it was the 9-point we had been hunting. He also was not alarmed as he strolled across the clearing. He made it 3/4s of the way across before he stopped and gave me a slight quartering-away shot. I gently squeezed one off, and he simply dropped. Since we have had deer get up on us before, I went ahead and placed a second shot into his chest. I watched him for what seemed an eternity before I was able to walk over and place my hands on this great Georgia buck.
