Hunt Story
Got settled down in my climbing stand about 25 minutes before daylight. I began to get all my equipment situated and sat down and started to listening to the woods become alive. Heard one deer walk by before shooting light but could not see what it was. At daylight say my first buck small 8-pointer feeding under and a white oak tree. After he walked off I saw several does and other small bucks chasing. At about nine that morning I saw a 125-inch 8-pointer walk by and make a rub. After he walked by the wind picked up really strong and the woods seem to die of all wildlife movement. About an hour and a half went by before the wind died down briefly. At this point I grabbed my home made rattling horns and gave it a good two to three minute sequence and sat them down. A few seconds later the wind picked up again and the woods seemed desolate. Ten minutes after my rattling sequence I heard a limb break to the left of my stand in a thick spot. I started scanning the area for movement but the wind made it difficult, but i finally caught a glimpse of horns slowly moving my way. I realized it was the big ten we had on camera, I stood up and slowly reached for my gun. The buck was slowly moving form left to right in front of me looking for the two fighting bucks. He stepped into a small spot no bigger than a five-gallon bucket and I took my shot. Hit him right behind the shoulder took only a few hard steps and fell to the ground. I immediately got out my phone and got in touch with my girlfriend and mom to tell them the good news.
