Hunt Story
After observing chasing activity that morning, I set up on ridge that had just been select cut this year overlooking edge of 50-acre clearcut. After about 20 minutes, I observed a large buck chasing a doe over the ridge I was sitting on out onto the clearcut about 40 yards to my left. I could not get a shot that I was comfortable with due to the brush and speed. About 15 minutes later I could hear another deer running and grunting. I set my rifle on my shooting stick and turned to the area where the first buck came from. My buck came out, and I grunted and he stopped giving me a perfect broadsided shot on the edge of the clearcut. I shot him and he went approximately 30-40 yards and laid down. I waited about 10 minutes. I could see that he was no longer breathing. I walked over and he was dead. It was a very fast hunt total time was about an hour from set up to recovery.
