Hunt Story
First hunt from this stand this year and proved to be a visibility issue, I am left handed and spotty visibility to my right made me nervous, and I considered on going to different location. Luckily, I stuck it out. I got in the stand around 3:45 p.m. with a lot of squirrels making a racket around with acorns pounding the ground also. Uneventful with no deer movement until about 5:05 when a basket-racked 8-point moved through the thick stuff to my right and never stopped. At 5:10, I hear something to my left and see movement 60 yards out. I see feet and a head, that is it. I get my body turned to get deer in scope. Then the deer stops and turns with tree blocking full view of vitals and limited view of rack. He is lip curling, wind checking something crazy (Tink's #69). He finally gives me a full view of everything and I instantly knew, I took the safety off and fired. He was 40-50 yards when I fired, and he ran directly to me and turned downhill and expired 30 yards from my stand. Could smell him from my stand. My wife Mollie did not believe that I had harvested him when I first texted at 5:13. Lol, I had to send pictures before she would send help. For comparison on body size I am 270 pounds.
