Hunt Story

With abnormally warm weather, drought and acorns galore, I wasn't thrilled about hunting season so far. I finally found a few scrapes and horn trees but nothing to really get me excited. I went and made a mock scrape close to the ones I found and hung a camera up. There were no bucks on cam and just three does. One of the does looked like a horse, she was huge. So being doe days this weekend, I decided if I saw her, I was going to shoot her. Well, Sunday it was supposed to be 42 and the coldest morning of the year. The wind was perfect, and I cleared me a spot out against a big oak tree and sat on the ground where I could see the best. Thirty minutes later, I saw a deer coming through from where I walked in. I could see it was big bodied, so I thought it was the doe. After a second, I could see the "chicken walk" and knew it was a buck. I threw up the gun and saw a good set of horns. The next tree he walked by I knew it was time to shoot (about 75 yards). I pulled the trigger and he ran 60 yards and fell. No prior pictures of the buck. He must be cruising looking for does or headed back to bed. To God the glory for harvesting a fine buck.
