Hunt Story

On Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2016, my dad woke me up to go on the first hunting trip of the season. When we got outside of the camper, it was really cold and super windy. We were awake, so we went anyway and were just going to scout. We went to our two-person ladder stand, climbed up and waited for a long time, and we saw nothing — not a squirrel, bird, deer, not even a cow from the pasture above us. As it got warmer, we started seeing some animals move, but still no deer. Very say that we didn't see anything, we went bak to the camper and ate breakfast. After relaxing for a while, we then headed back into the woods to the stand. The wind had calmed down and it was much warmer. Not long after we had gotten to the stand, the birds started singing and the squirrels chattering. I look toward the creek, and there were three does that played for quite a while, and it was cool to see them playing like little kids. But being buck-only days, I got tired of watching them. So we climbed down from that stand and went to another, and as we were walking to the other stand, I looked up and saw a "huge buck." So I poked my dad and pulled my 7mm08 up slowly, sighting in on the buck, and pulled the trigger. It ran off. We waited a few minutes and then started tracking it. Then we called my mom and told her, then she came to help us. We looked for about an hour and a half, and I wanted to give up, but we didn't. My dad then went into the thicket and then found it, and then I went in and helped him drag it out. We loaded it in the back and took it to the camper.
