Hunt Story
It was Sunday evening on Oct.23. My 9-year-old grandson an I were hunting my brother's box blind overlooking a food plot in planted pines. The temperature had heated up and it was pretty warm inside the box. We got settled in around 4 p.m. for the evening hunt. The wind was in our face at 5 mph, just enough to cool us occasionally an keep our scent away from the food plot. We sat there talking hunting without much action until around 6.15 when two small deer appeared at the feed trough. We looked through binoculars to get a better look and could see the mother doe's head eating in the trough. The mother doe finally came out into the food plot, so we could get a better look at the three deer. My grandson wanted to shoot the doe, but we talked about it and he decided not to because the fawns looked too young. The three deer ate in the food plot heading our way, when all of a sudden they jerked their heads around to the pines and I told Jayse there is something coming out where they are looking. Then we saw a big set of antlers come out from behind a bush that I immediately recognized from trail-cam pictures I had since they started growing in the spring. I whispered to Jayse that is one of the three 10-pointers I told you I was hunting, so as soon as he was out in the food plot, I positioned my Browning X Bolt and put the crosshairs on him an squeezed the trigger, hitting him below the back bone. He immediately dropped in his tracks. I knew he was a good buck, which would turn out to be my biggest I had ever taken! He was a beautiful buck, and I was very excited, on the other hand my grandson was quite upset that I didn't let him have a chance to shoot him, but it all turned good. After all it was our buck we took together making great memories!!! The buck was a beautiful 10-pointer.
