Clarks Hill: Level: 8.4 feet below full. Temp: Low 70s. Clarity: Very clear.

Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “Topwater action was late starting this year due to the warm weather, but it has finally kicked off with small schools popping up in various places along the edges of the channel on the lake. A jig-headed white-ice fluke, an ice fly and a Sammy are all good options to keep close this time of year. Some fishermen also find a lot of success trolling Lit’l Fishie lures while fish are surfacing. The hybrids and stripers have finally started moving around toward different creeks and moving away from the lower and upper dams since the water quality has turned. With as quick as things are going from one extreme to the other on the lake, we expect to be pulling planer boards along the edges of mid-lake creeks before too long. We have already seen a couple decent boxes of fish that have come from herring and gizzards pulled behind boards. As the weather and water cools off even more, expect the hybrids and stripers to push even shallower and hold in the 20- to 25-foot range. We should start to see some bird activity relatively soon, whether it’s loons working over schools of bait or gulls diving.”
