Hunt Story
Was hunting an evening staging area between the swampy day-bed area and the bean field night-time food source. Between 6 pm and 6:45 pm, a steady stream of does and younger bucks filtered through and passed, proving that the slight SW cross-wind was to my advantage. This deer was among the last to emerge, and I watched for three or four minutes as he made his way into bow range. When he passed the stand, he was broadside at 25 yards. The arrow buried to its fletching a few inches behind his right shoulder, and he turned and sprinted back to the safety of the swamp. I heard him crash, but was unsure as to the distance. I returned just after sunrise the next morning and, with some help, found him deep in the swamp on a well-used trail. He had run about 200 yards.
